The world knows what happens to British troops overseas. But the women that leave at home have challenges of their own, which nobody hears about. Until now. This book contains 25 true accounts of life as a military wife.
They tell of the loneliness and isolation of living on a military base, the difficulty of writing letters to men facing unimaginable horrors, and the overwhelming joy of seeing husbands and sons come home safe. But these are no ordinary stories. the fortunes of these wives changed forever when they began singing together: not only did they find support, but their choir - the Military Wives Choir - captured the hearts of the nation.
L’amor crema.
The ten year class reunion of Rockland High school is being held in December Shelby and Adira can’t wait to attend, but for different reasons. Shelby normally got what she wanted and didn’t care who she had to hurt in order to get it. When she first laid eyes on Calix she knew that she had to have him. He was the most popular boy at school and also the most handsome. Shelby had her and Calix’s life planned out, but there was just one problem with her fairytale, her prince charming is with Adira. Calix suggested monthly hall passes to help him deal with his issues of infidelity. Completely against the idea, but wanting to hold on to her marriage, Adira agrees.
Although, it was a hard pill to swallow, Adira got over it by redeeming her own hall pass. The date of the next monthly hall pass falls on the night of their tenth year reunion.
Adira fears that her husband, Calix will use his hall pass to sleep with his ex from high school that just happens to be her arch nemesis, Shelby and that a secret she has been hiding for months will be revealed. A night of remembrance, bonding, and happiness creates an aftermath of pain and betrayal as secrets are revealed, and rules are broken. Adira and Calix marital woes becomes prevalent and Shelby and Timothy façade of a marriage slowly begins to unravel.
In The Postmodern Animal, Steve Baker explores how animal imagery has been used in modern and contemporary art and performance, and in postmodern philosophy and literature, to suggest and shape ideas about identity and creativity. Baker cogently analyses the work of such European and American artists as Olly and Suzi, Mark Dion, Paula Rego and Sue Coe, at the same time looking critically at the constructions, performances and installations of Robert Rauschenberg, Louise Bourgeois, Joseph Beuys and other significant late twentieth-century artists.
Baker's book draws parallels between the animal's place in postmodern art and poststructuralist theory, drawing on works as diverse as Jacques Derrida's recent analysis of the role of animals in philosophical thought and Julian Barnes's best-selling Flaubert's Parrot.
Still recovering from a near-death experience, Homicide Detective Alexander Drake is suddenly recalled to active duty to track down a diabolical serial killer with ties to the occult.
Calistoga is a name unlike that of any other city in America, first uttered by a man who had intended to develop the "beautiful land"--or Tu-la-halusi as the land at the foot of Mount St. Helena was known to the region's native Wappo tribe--into a resort area rivaling that great eastern resort of similar geological character, Saratoga Springs, New York. During a promotional event, the developer, Samuel Brannan, was about to declare that he would make his hot springs resort community the Saratoga of California, when he transposed the names and declared he would make it the Calistoga of Sarafornia--and the town's name was born. The name resonated with locals at the time and has come to represent the pioneer spirit, optimism, and determination of those who would make their way to this secluded region of northern Napa County. Men and women have come in pursuit of their dreams--farming, bottling the local mineral water, and building a community in the spirit of early Calistoga.
To Live in the World as Ourselves: Self-Discovery and Better Relationships through Jung’s Typology is a guide to one of the pillars of Jungian psychology. Going far beyond merely an exercise in categorizing and affixing ourselves and others with a personality “type,” the author offers simple but fundamental aspects of psychology that are easily observable in everyone. The book shows readers how to discover the essentials of their true nature, and offers techniques to live more authentically and with stress, and to relate to others with more ease, understanding and mutual support. Through real-life examples and avatars of typology from popular culture, the author describes extroversion and introversion, thinking, feeling, intuition and sensation, universal psychological abilities to perceive and process life experience that cover all aspects of a fully human life. She shows how an innate hierarchy of these psychological abilities shapes our personal priorities, interests, special talents, ways of working and relating, even how we fall in love. Throughout the book are tips on relating best to people of various typologies, so as to avoid misunderstandings and even heal long-standing conflicts. Readers find out where they are likely to feel vulnerable, and ways to work best with and around fears and self-doubts, leading to self-awareness, self-enhancement and deeply rewarding relationships.
