As the Third Age came to a bloody close, one of the first victims of the brutal march of the Shadow's armies across Eredane was the city of Highwall. Since the First Age, the city and its Scholar's Academy stood as a beacon of hope and enlightenment in a darkening world. That shining beacon was shattered seemingly overnight as the fury of the Shadow in the North descended on the world. Now, a hundred years later, the city of Highwall lies in ruin. At the center of this desolation rises Theros Obsidia, a black tower of impossible size that was magicked from the earth and stone like a splinter drawn from flesh. This is the locus of Izrador's power in Eredane and the fortress of his legates, the Order of Shadow. Huddled around the tower are the camps and garrisons of the Shadow's hordes, along with the ruins and hovels of the city's survivors. Highwall has become a place of death and darkness, and only the bravest, most follhardy, or most desperate heroes dare to intrude into the heart of Shadow. City of Shadow offers detailed information on the ruined and occupied city of Highwall, a level-by-level description of Theros Obsidia complete with beautiful maps and illustrations, and in-depth information on the Order of Shadow. Requires the use of the Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook, published by Wizards of the Coast, Inc. This product utilizes updated material from the v.3.5 revision.

In October 1990, the Library of Congress announced its list of twenty-five culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant films to be added to the National Film Registry. The River, written and directed by Pare Lorentz in 1937, was inducted along with Scorsese's Raging Bull and Capra's It's a Wonderful Life. Originally published in 1967, Pare Lorentz and the Documentary Film was the first book devoted exclusively to the works of Lorentz. Robert L. Snyder focuses on the films Lorentz made for the United States Film Service - The River, The Plow That Broke the Plains, and The Fight for Life. With the exception of a few vintage World War I training films, these three films were the first made by the government for general viewing by the American public. It was Lorentz's idea to produce a series of films about the pressing problems facing the nation during the Great Depression - drought, floods, poverty, and slums. With an initial budget of $6,000 and the enormous drive and energy of a young director who had never made a motion picture, the beginnings were anything but auspicious.
The results, however, were sensational and often made national headlines. In spite of inadequate budgets, bureaucratic red tape, professional jealousies, Lorentz developed new filming techniques and set new standards in his documentaries.
Snyder has written a perceptive account of the production of these classic films and the contemporary reaction to them, along with a critical evaluation of each work.
This is an important book for anyone interested in documentary film and the history of the Depression era.
In Conflicting Commitments, Shannon Gleeson goes beyond the debate over federal immigration policy to examine the complicated terrain of immigrant worker rights. Federal law requires that basic labor standards apply to all workers, yet this principle clashes with increasingly restrictive immigration laws and creates a confusing bureaucratic terrain for local policymakers and labor advocates. Gleeson examines this issue in two of the largest immigrant gateways in the country: San Jose, California, and Houston, Texas. Conflicting Commitments reveals two cities with very different approaches to addressing the exploitation of immigrant workers--both involving the strategic coordination of a range of bureaucratic brokers, but in strikingly different ways. Drawing on the real life accounts of ordinary workers, federal, state, and local government officials, community organizers, and consular staff, Gleeson argues that local political contexts matter for protecting undocumented workers in particular. Providing a rich description of the bureaucratic minefields of labor law, and the explosive politics of immigrant rights, Gleeson shows how the ons learned from San Jose and Houston can inform models for upholding labor and human rights in the United States.

Khas untukmu, suami / isteri tersayang... Kesudianmu menjadi teman hidupku, amat aku syukuri.
